Farewell ceremony for new Polish contingent

On Thursday, 30th January soldiers and airmen creating Polish contingent to be deployed in Central African Republic to support MISCA mission departed to France.

- Together with French allies we will fulfill tasks for stabilization and peace. - Said General Commander of Branches of the Armed Forces LtGen pilot Lech Majewski. He pointed out that the Polish are well prepared for the mission and the contingent is composed of experienced soldiers and airmen who had already participated in actions in war zone - they have been to Afghanistan, Chad and Mali.

New Polish contingent will number about 50 soldiers and employees of the armed forces, most whom coming from 33rd Transport Air Base in Powidz.

The subunit will be operationally subordinate to operational commander of French forces conducting the mission in Central African Republic, the national command will be carried out by the Minister of National Defence through Operational Commander of Branches of the Armed Forces.

On 1st February the contingent will reach readiness for acting from the base of French Air Forces Base Aérienne Orléans – Bricy Air Base BA 123 «Commandant Charles Paoli», located 105 km to the southwest from Paris. This particular unit was chosen as transport aircraft C-160 Transall and C-130H Hercules station there what will facilitate cooperation and maintenance of aircraft.

On 29 January 2014 President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski signed the Resolution on the use of Polish Military Contingent in Central African Republic. The Resolution says about engaging up to 50 soldiers and employees of the armed forces and the use of one transport aircraft C-130E Hercules with necessary equipment in the period from 1st February to 30th April 2014. The mission is realised on the base of UN Resolution No 2127 from 5th December 2013 and the Bill on the rules of use or stay of Polish Armed Forces abroad.

Maj pilot Sławomir Byliniak, deputy commander of 13th transport aviation
squadron from 8th Transport Air Base in Kraków-Balice will be a commander of Polish Military Contingent in Central African Republic.
